Q: What if we lose power — how do we still charge the vehicles?

The same way a gas pump still pumps fuel – both require electricity. The difference is that many Tesla Supercharger stations and many other commercial Level 3 sites have solar and battery backup, so they continue to operate through many grid events when local gas stations may not.

A few practical points:

  • 1. In a regional power outage, your nearest Supercharger is more likely to be operational than your nearest gas station because of the backup infrastructure Tesla has built into the network.
  • 2. Cybertruck supports power export out of the box, so your patrol vehicle can become a mobile power source for radios, lights, and small loads in an extended emergency.
  • 3. Your station’s onboard charging can be paired with backup generation — we offer charging-as-a-service and infrastructure designs that incorporate resilience for critical fleet operations.
  • 4. Most outages are local and short. With roughly 290–350 miles of range per vehicle and the ability to top up at any Supercharger or commercial DC fast charger, your fleet has substantial flexibility to operate through short interruptions without intervention.
  • 5. Gasoline or Diesel Generators also work for charging vehicles if there are no other options, but this is an extremely rare scenario.

Tell us about any grid risks you perceive in your specific jurisdiction and we will design charging infrastructure accordingly.
